POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland is seeking a Computer Operator Trainee. This position at the Annapolis Data Center (ADC) works during the day-shift hours 7:30am - 4:00pm and will be trained to use mainframe equipment such as printers, breakdown and distribute reports and forms, monitor operating system, schedule and process production batch work, provide help desk support, perform computer security support services, control physical access to the data center, and provide  guard coverage.

PLEASE NOTE: ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks.  All ITD employees are available for on-call support. Position is classified as emergency essential. Employee is required to report to work and stay at work beyond normal work hours in a declared emergency. As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and / or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience keying large amounts of alpha, numeric or symbolic data from source documents into a computer or onto magnetic tape or disk according to a production schedule, or one year of experience assisting in the operation of multipurpose, multi-taking computer systems including preparation of magnetic tape or other materials of computer input as well as the collection, control and disbursement of computer output.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
  2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Help Desk  experience
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills 
  • Experience working in a customer service environment
