Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

These positions provide support services for professional staff engaged in the planning and delivery of vocational and independent living services.

Position Duties Include: 
  • Provides interpersonal information to address consumer concerns, general public and private organizations
  • Direct contact with consumers providing information regarding vocational rehabilitation services, problem solving and completing applications 
  • Schedule medical appointments, obtain medical information/reports, obtain/provide billing information, create authorizations, and other related fiscal operations 
  • Enter information into the AWARE case management system 
  • Utilize the Google platform for email, documents, and spreadsheets
  • Maintains important and confidential records and documentation 
  • Develops and prepares various correspondence and/or reports 
  • Maintains office supplies 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties. 

Notes: 
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  • Experience using a case management software program to enter and retrieve information
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Work experience involving medical/disability terminology and services

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates must consent to State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
