 The Office of the Public Defender is seeking applicants for our Baltimore City Felony Division who are detail oriented with excellent organizational and writing skills, as well as problem solving skills, to transport and store case files.  The primary responsibility for this position is to support the attorneys  by  pulling and sorting case files, downloading discovery, filing, answering phones, and general office duties.  Additionally, this position will provide assistance with data entry which will require use of our internal database (eDefender) and use of various judiciary websites (MDEC, Case search, Jportal).

Main Purpose of Job

An Office Services Clerk is the full performance level of work performing diverse clerical duties which support agency operations and require the review, verification and interpretation of information in order to make determinations and resolve problems in accordance with policies, regulations and laws applicable to agency programs. Employees in this classification do not supervise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.

2. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent communication, customer service and computer skills.  Filing and data entry experience.  The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and experience working with diverse populations.  High School Diploma or GED.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be admitted to the examination for this

classification.  Successful candidates will be ranked as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER

QUALIFIED, OR QUALIFIED and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to
