Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to provide direct supervision for counselors and services to clients in a behavioral health setting. This position will provide direct supervision and services within a behavior health care setting to clients having or a risk of having substance use disorders and or mental health disorders. The populations served are adolescents, adults and their families. This position will also evaluate case situations and present information to counselors and other members of the health care team on clients, families and social background pertinent to diagnosis and treatment. This position will interview clients and family members to determine nature and degree of problems, provide oversight and supervision for individual and group therapy and arrange, as necessary, medical or psychiatric examinations to help identify problems pertinent to diagnosis and treatment.

This position will manage the day-to-day clinical functions of the health care facility. This position will also help counselors to modify attitudes and patterns of behavior by increasing self-understanding and knowledge of SUD and approaches to therapy. This position will determine if a crisis situation exists and, if it does, immediately initiates appropriate intervention techniques. This position will conduct PEPs and disciplinary procedures and PIPs meant to help staff improve and provide competent services. This position will also complete reports and attend meetings, training and events as directed by the program Director. In addition, this position will provide supervision to other members of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to further their understanding of social and emotional factors underlying a client's health problems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for Certified Associate Counselors-Alcohol and Drug.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates must be certified by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.Alcohol and Drug.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
