Introduction

The Maryland Department of Labor is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Specialist II. This position is responsible for processing license applications for the issuance of the 25 regulatory Boards and Commissions within the division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to process license applications for the issuance of the 25 regulatory Boards and Commissions within the division of Occupational and Professional Licensing. The position is also responsible for answering consumer inquiries through the Consumer Service Center by providing accurate information regarding the Board and Commissions, application and complaint status, and related information in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. The position is responsible for training Call Center representatives and Payment Center clerks on the steps of service as well as the processing procedures.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Process, review and running edits for original licensing applications for manual deposit by verifying applications are complete and correct; conduct computer research for trade name validation and proper registration within SDAT, verify compliance with insurance and other licensing requirements, and verify that the correct fees are applied to each application.
  • Ensure all call center representatives and Payment Center Clerks are trained in all steps of service and processing procedures
  • Process refund request received from Boards/Commissions weekly
  • Track the active renewal listing monthly to ensure the money in the system is processed out of the system every 90 days
  • Assist and Provide accurate and correct information to consumers about each agency within the Division by telephone and email in a timely and professional manner

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).
 
Experience with AS400
Experience with Microsoft Office and/or Google Suites
Strong organizational skills
Experience Training

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.
