Introduction

This recruitment is for ONE FULL-TIME, CONTRACTUAL POSITION (1984 hours) located at the Maryland State Police, Forensic Sciences Division HQ, Pattern Evidence Section, Pikesville, Baltimore County, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the management staff of the Pattern Evidence Section (Firearms/Toolmarks Unit and Latent Print Units) and various laboratory personnel assigned to the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1.  Proficient in MS Office Suite programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
2.  Proficient with Google Suite (g-mail, google docs, google sheets, etc.) to input/store data, create reports and manage information.
3.  Experience with the expungement of criminal records

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates may be responsible for providing their own transportation as needed to access meetings, remote locations, and job destinations as assigned.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification.  It is, therefore, essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Successful candidates will be placed on the Eligible List as a BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED CANDIDATE and remain eligible for at least one year from the date of examination.  The list will be used by the hiring manager to select employees.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements for the position.  You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may be based on your application.  Report all experience and education that is related to the position.  Applicants will be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
