Introduction
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is
an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance
industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and
insurance professionals’ compliance with State law. Staff members are
subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and
other public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of
responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance
producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial
examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and
approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer
fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners,
and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market
conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland
law. The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and
outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of
individual consumers annually.

POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Insurance Administration is seeking to hire
three (3) Customer Service Representatives for the Property and Casualty Division
(P&C). This position will provide telephone coverage for a high volume of
incoming consumer calls for the P&C Complaints Division regarding the MIA’s
complaint process; the insurance companies claims process; how to shop for
insurance; policy coverages; and policy rates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a Customer Service Representative in a high volume call center environment.
Experience with insurance.
Knowledge of the
insurance industry.
The ability to
communicate orally and in writing.
Proficiency with
Microsoft Word and Excel and use of on-line internet applications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
EXAMINATION PROCESS
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated. The evaluation may consist of a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
