Main Purpose of Job

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Provide services to families to prevent further crisis for cases identified by ACDSS. The service is provided for 8 weeks and will include assessment, modeling and teaching appropriate skills (i.e. life skills, behavior skills, parenting skills). Will assist in the development of service plans, referring to appropriate resources to meet therapeutic needs identified and support a wrap around method of addressing family needs.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assess for safety of children, nurture and promote emotion wellness of families served and assist with immediate crisis intervention using the appropriate intervention plan.
  • Provide direct advocacy and support.
  • Provide crisis intervention by informing family of options/resources.
  • Maintain regular contact with caregivers, and other relevant parties such as school staff, treatment providers, etc. to gather information regarding current behaviors; observe and record all contact with those involved with youth to maintain records of the youth's social, physical, and behavioral health.
  • Provide families home visits.
  • Meet a minimum of once a week with DSS staff and other relevant parties involved with the family to coordinate services.
  • Complete administrative duties such as record keeping and forms accurately and on time.
  • Participate in the Allegany County Department of Social Services' response to an emergency, including 24/7 response work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
One year experience demonstrating effective verbal and written communication skills.
One year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, and Google platform.
One year of experience working as part of a team.

Willing to work in Allegany County.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
