Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service Headquarters located in Annapolis, MD, is currently accepting applications for one (1) Seasonal Contractual Project Review and Planning Assistant.  This 10-month position provides direct support to the Project Review and Planning team. The selected candidate will assist with the intake of new projects, inputting data into the project review database, and handling routine correspondence. Duties will include compilation of project files, document development and processing, and coordination with other units of DNR, other agencies, and outside organizations. Planning support will include document preparation and review, grant reporting and accounting, and database management. Occasional outreach, webpage development and social media may be required. This position will primarily work at the Tawes State Office Building in Annapolis, Maryland but will be involved with state-wide programs and initiatives and may require occasional travel throughout the state of Maryland.  Some telework will be required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Completion of 60 credit hours of college level education in business, communications, a natural resource-related field or recreation and parks.

EXPERIENCE: One year of experience or equivalent in an administrative support capacity is required for this position.

Note: Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working at a public agency (local, state or federal) providing a familiarity with the working of government agencies.
  • Experience using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive), Adobe software and DocuSign.
  • Excellent organizational skills including data management, project tracking, and file management on shared network drives.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants selected for employment may undergo an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to:  employment reference check, education verification, driving record check (if the position requires employees to drive a vehicle) and a criminal history check including fingerprinting.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
