Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health's Office of Preparedness and Response is Seeking a qualified individual with experience working as a harm reductionist in overdose prevention. The individual should be able to create, understand and present complex analytical data visualizations based on epidemiological studies of overdose data.

The main purpose of this position will be to support and enhance public health surveillance and detection capacities of the Office of Preparedness and Response (OP&R) by coordinating biosurveillance and other drug-overdose monitoring and analysis activities as part of the Overdose Data to Action (OD2A) program. This includes partnering and collaborating with other overdose data teams, monthly and annual reporting requirements to the CDC, and regular collaboration with overdose prevention and response teams to improve data translation and data literacy. Effort work towards improved public health services, policies and programs informed by data, and reduced overdose mortality and morbidity and reduced health disparities. 

This position is considered Emergency Essential and functions on a 24/7 status and may need to respond to public health or other emergency and provide own transportation. This position is eligible for telework per the Director of OP&R's leadership and must adhere to the current MDH and OP&R telework policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience evaluating, analyzing, researching and developing health care services, policies and programs.

Note: Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree in Health Sciences, Health Care Administration, Public Health, Public Policy or closely related field from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Desired candidate should possess the following:

  • Experience as a harm reductionist in overdose prevention; and,
  • Experience creating, understanding and presenting complex analytical data visualizations based on epidemiological studies of overdose data.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
