POSITION DUTIES

Located in downtown Annapolis, the Comptroller of Maryland's Revenue Administration Division has an amazing opportunity for an assistant section manager; Revenue Administrator VI, position within our Project Management and Application control unit.

We are looking for someone who possesses a strong attention to detail, has knowledge of the elementary concepts of information technology theories and methods; ability to train and supervise subordinates, has a vast knowledge of state and federal taxes, excels in a deadline driven environment, proficiency in English; written and spoken, in order to correspond with IT professionals and upper management via email or telephone and is a team player in all aspects of daily work. This positions duties will include, Assisting the section manager with managing staff along with coordinating system development and implementation of the Revenue Administration Division's initiatives involving hardware and software application upgrades, enhancements, and replacements, annual tax season updates and enhancements, problem analysis, and advanced fraud analysis through data mining. This position is responsible for assisting with testing all migrations, code changes, upgrades, enhancements, and new solutions, as well as all annual changes and providing ad hoc reporting from systems including the Data Warehouse to assist in planning, analysis, legislative estimates, and both formal and informal requests for information. Assist with the daily management of the Application Control unit who processes revenue administration and IFTA jobs, coordinating and reconciling refunds among other duties. This position is eligible for telework after probation period.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of professional work experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, senior management, or customer service. Four years of this professional work experience must have involved supervising professional revenue administrators, accountants, or auditors, or providing legal advice requiring the interpretation of tax laws in the capacity of a tax attorney, or having been in a responsible administrative or management capacity.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an associates degree for two years of the required experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for two years of auditing, accounting, general management, and customer service experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute 30 college credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience up to two years of experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service.
  4. Candidates may substitute graduate education in an academic field related to the required experience from an accredited college or university at the rate of one year of education for five years of the required general experience.
  5. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License for six years of the required experience.
  6. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the tax examining field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Employees in this classification are required to travel in the performance of the duties.
  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
