POSITION DUTIES

The Compliance Division is currently recruiting for a supervisor in their Annapolis Collections Call Center Section.  This position is responsible for training, monitoring, evaluating employees in the techniques of reviewing compliance and collection of delinquent taxes requiring extensive knowledge and comprehension of federal and state tax laws, both in audit and collection applications.  Duties include but are not limited to maintaining employee attendance records; approving/denying leave requests; handling personnel matters via counseling, memorandum and/or incident reports; reviewing various reports to ensure employee performance standards are being met; reviewing payment agreements, wage garnishment and property lien actions requested by collectors; reviewing all cases submitted by collectors for waiver, inactivation or compromise offer; reconciling case balances, researching payment discrepancies, and authorizing account balance adjustments referred by collectors; reviewing delinquent cases for MVA license holds to determine payment requirements. Additionally, this employee will be concerned with the promulgation of policies, rules, regulations, methods, and procedures for the purpose of implementing and promoting compliance with the tax and accounting laws, and prescribing systems for reporting, accounting for and distributing tax revenues to the various political subdivisions. 

This position will be supervising a minimum of three to seven Revenue Specialist I/Examiner I, II, or III, and contractual agents to responsibly and equitably enforce collection of various types of deficient income tax cases including but not limited to CP 2000, Fidos, Fagims, RARs, nonfilers, and regular assessment types. This list of qualified candidates will also be used to fill a future Call Center Supervisor vacancy in Annapolis Collections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of professional work experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management, or customer service. 

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an associates degree for two years of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for four years of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute 30 college credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience up to three years of experience.
  4. Candidates may substitute graduate education in an academic field related to the required experience from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  5. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License for the required experience. 
  6. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the tax examining field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
