Introduction
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is
an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance
industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and
insurance professionals’ compliance with State law. Staff members are
subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and
other public and private entities.
The MIA is charged with a broad range of
responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance
producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial
examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and
approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer
fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners,
and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market
conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.
The MIA also
has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in
hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

POSITION DUTIES
The Maryland Insurance
Administration is recruiting to fill an Administrative Aide position in the
Property and Casualty Complaints Unit. This position provides administrative
support to the designated investigators. Duties include generating letters,
scanning and/or photocopying documents. This position will maintain files
manually and electronically, will answer telephone calls as needed, and will
serve as backup to other clerical support staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience performing
administrative tasks for multiple people.
2. Experience managing a high volume of
calls.
3. Experience using Microsoft applications.
4. Experience in the property and casualty
insurance industry.
5. Ability to operate basic office equipment.
