Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (System). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. The System is composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 397,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date. 

The agency is seeking to fill an Administrator II position in the Data Control Unit.

During the probationary period, this position will work 100% at the office of the Maryland State Retirement Agency. After the probationary/training period, and at the discretion of the Unit Director, this position may be eligible to telework one day per week.

POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this position is to supervise, manage and control the operations of the Employer Reporting Adjustments and Member Contributions Audit Team of the Data Control Unit. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision and leadership of the Employer Reporting Adjustments and Member Contributions Audit Team in processing adjustments of prior reported payroll data (SRA714), conversion of member service related to transfers among plans (10/12 month), reviewing Cross Foot Error reports generated by the MPAS system to resolve contribution discrepancies, processing Title 37 transfers, performing Active Master File account audits for service and contribution deficiencies, preparing and authorizing adjustment transactions as a result of the account audits, and assisting with processes to ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of data on the Active Master File at fiscal yearend close.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical and research skills, excellent problem solving and decision-making skills, as well as superior time management and organization skills. The successful candidate must be a good communicator, both verbally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
 
• Proficient in using Microsoft Excel at the intermediate/advanced level (e.g. using pivot tables, linking worksheets, developing formulas, etc.).
• At least two years of experience as a supervisor.  
• At least two years of experience researching and interpreting laws, regulations or policies.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
