Introduction

This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Office of Fair Practices. This recruitment will be used to fill current vacancies for the position and may be used to fill future vacancies in the same classification/function. Future vacancies may also be filled via other recruitments. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Office of Fair Practices, is currently accepting applications for an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Officer. This EEO Officer is responsible for performing duties as assigned by the Director of the Office of Fair Practice, or as needed under Title 5 of the State Personnel and Pension Article. 

Job duties include but are not limited to: 
  • Implements equal opportunity programs, such as equal employment opportunity and minority business enterprise and equal access (Title VI) programs;
  • Monitors compliance with equal opportunity laws, regulations, and policies; 
  • Investigates and mediates complaints of employment discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, and bullying;
  • Drafts internal reports of investigative findings and departmental position statements in response to externally filed discrimination and retaliation complaints; 
  • Engages in an interactive process with employees and supervisors when reviewing requests for reasonable accommodations under the ADA;
  • Recommends resolutions to complaints and requests for ADA accommodations; and
  • Develops and administers training on workplace issues including but not limited to equal employment opportunity and fair practices requirements and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
