POSITION DUTIES

Would you like to work and enjoy the scenery in Historic Downtown Annapolis? This position is steps away from the Governor's Mansion, located within walking distance of many affordable dining choices. An ideal place to work and enjoy year-round. The main purpose of this position is to manage a new unit within the Taxpayer Services Division (TSD).

The position will be responsible for daily, weekly, quarterly etc. review, analyze, and assign information received from taxpayers via various channels of communication such as email, portal and/or survey. The incumbent will be the Quality Assurance Unit Manager for TSD. The incumbent for this position should be highly skilled in professional writing, communication, personal computer and software applications. Incumbent will be responsible for personnel assigned to the unit in matters of timekeeping, work assignments, PEP standards etc. Classifications can include revenue examiners, or any other grades of personnel assigned. Incumbent for position may provide assistance to other units within TSD or the Comptroller. This position is considered one of the agency's emergency essential personnel and is to ensure the unit is adequately staffed.

​Please Note: ​​Must be willing and able to work Monday through Friday in a full-time capacity in the Taxpayer Services Division's. Required hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Leave may be limited during certain times of the year, due to high volume events, projects or special assignments.  Evening and weekend work may be required especially during peak times of the year.  Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting 25 to 35 pounds, etc.  Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for private accounting services.​

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. Please Note:  Administrative Staff experience differs from general administrative experience. Administrative staff encompasses discretion and independent judgment directly related to policies, operations, or supervision of personnel. A candidate with administrative staff experience will demonstrate the ability to identify the root cause of issues, develop alternative courses of action and implement new policies or procedures. General administrative experience is routine support work that is often present in administrative assistant or other office roles.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Customer Service Experience 
  • Knowledge of Maryland State Tax Laws and Forms 
  • Knowledge of Federal Tax Laws and Forms 4. Organizational skills 
  • Previous Supervisor Experience 
  • Recent experience with personal computer and software applications 
  • Experience adapting to changing priorities 
  • Good Communication skills (both verbal and written)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. 
  • Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
