Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Office of Inspector General for Health (OIGH) is an independent state agency responsible for identifying Fraud, Waste, and Abuse of Maryland Department of Health (MDH) funds. This position shall maintain confidentiality and impartiality when conducting duties. The job will consist of working with OIGH auditors and investigators conducting audits and investigations in order to objectively review, monitor, and verify the compliance efforts of contractors, grantees, and providers that may have received Medicaid funds. This position shall assess and triage all citizen complaints received by the OIGH and respond appropriately. This position will also be responsible for generating annual reports. This assists the OIGH’s mission to protect the integrity of the MDH and promote standards that benefit the citizens of Maryland and beneficiaries of its programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work. 

Notes1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for five years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Extensive experience conducting investigations.
  • Assessing and triaging customer complaints and conducting investigations.
  • Strong organizational and time management experience with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience training staff.
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality and discretion in all matters.
  • Generating and reviewing a variety of reports.
  • Interpreting laws and regulations.
  • Experience at the proficient level utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other office software.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
