The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Facility Administrator (DJS Superintendent II), so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!

In this role, you will be responsible for the direct management and supervision of day-to-day operations at a juvenile facility, overseeing both personnel and youth in the care and custody of DJS. The Superintendent II ensures the safety, security, and well-being of all individuals within the facility while maintaining compliance with departmental and divisional policies.

Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited to: 
  • Managing all aspects of facility operations, including safety, security, programming, personnel, inventory, and physical plant management, in accordance with established policies and procedures 
  • Responsible for spearheading the interview and selection process for facility personnel and staff, reviewing personnel actions, and ensuring timely performance evaluations in compliance with the Department of Budget and Management regulations 
  • Conducting facility inspections, analyzing operations, and developing and enforcing procedures to ensure operational efficiency 
  • Monitoring fiscal matters such as overtime, equipment, and supplies to ensure budget compliance 
  • Leading staff development and training programs in compliance with the Maryland Correctional Training Commission (MCTC), ensuring staff remain current with the latest trends and best practices in juvenile services 
  • Participating in meetings, conferences, task forces, and special projects as assigned 
  • Preparing and submitting required data and reports in accordance with Headquarters’ timelines and directives 
  • Maintaining positive public relations through effective communications with the local community and the general public
This position requires on-site work and is not eligible for a hybrid telework schedule.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in facility management or operations, including supervisory experience in a juvenile facility or similar institutional setting.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following: 
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage personnel and coordinate multiple functions 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budget and management and facility operations 
  • Excellent communication skills to foster positive relationships within the community and with stakeholders
