LOCATION OF POSITION

Annapolis, Maryland (May be required to travel throughout the State as needed based on the essential functions of the position).

Main Purpose of Job

This position directly supports the Governor’s and Lt. Governor’s audio requirements for press conferences, announcements, groundbreakings, Board of Public Works Meetings, events, and other meetings as required.

 

In addition, this position assist Maintenance Supervisors within DGS operated facilities daily with additional facilities operations and maintenance tasks, including a variety of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, electrical, and grounds work duties as required to maintain assigned State buildings, and upon request, any other State buildings owned and/or managed by DGS. 

 

This is an emergency essential position subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this position must be willing and available for duty at all hours, day or night, and are required to work report for duty at all hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to: 

- Operate and maintain audio systems, remote systems, as well as those throughout the facilities. The Executive Branch and General Assembly use audio systems daily. In some cases, repairs are performed during live broadcasts. The technician performing repairs must possess a thorough understanding of computer electronics, digital transmission and software. 

- Install and maintain audio systems through the facility as well as remote/mobile audio systems at on-site locations. The technician performing repairs must be familiar with media broadcasting, public address systems, and audio distribution. 

- Perform additional facility operations and maintenance work. Replace ceiling tiles, floor tiles, and lighting throughout the building. Makes repairs to equipment and tools. Performs carpentry repairs and painting as required. Create and execute assigned work orders using the DGS Computerized Maintenance Management System.

- Perform other functions that may be required to enable DGS to fulfill its overall government mission. This includes assisting with weather related facility issues (such as snow removal).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 
1. Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a State high school equivalency certificate. 
2. Successful completion of a formal course in electronics theory, practice and equipment at a recognized school in electronics, radio, or television repair. 

Experience: Three years of experience in electronic equipment, radio, or television repair. 

Notes:
1. Applicants may substitute additional experience in electronic repair work or formal schooling in electronics, on a year for year basis, for up to two years of required high school education. 
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Electronics Mechanic classifications or Electronics Mechanic specialty codes in the Electronic Equipment Installation and Maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding all qualifications. 

 

- Experience setting up a variety of microphones, amplifiers and loudspeaker equipment used for media broadcasting, public address systems and audio distribution.

- Experience making repairs to computer electronics, digital transmission equipment and software during live broadcasts.

- Experience in any combination of the skilled maintenance trades, such as electricity, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration or air conditioning.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Must have a valid State of Maryland Driver’s License.


2. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.


3. Persons appointed to this position may, in some departments, be subject to call twenty-four hours a day in emergencies.

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews.  Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification. 

 

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
