Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to assist the Nutrition and Breastfeeding Services Unit through the provision of administrative support. This position will provide technical assistance to breastfeeding and nutrition unit staff and to local agencies to improve the quality or provision of program services. This position will also provide ongoing training for local agency staff that is accurate and in accordance with program policies. This position will also provide high-risk nutrition and breastfeeding counseling to participants either directly or by working in tandem with local agency staff, when local agency professional staff and designated breastfeeding experts are not available.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Four years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services, two years must have been in a public health or community setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Community Health, Nutrition or Public Health for one year of required general professional nutrition or dietetic services experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Community Health, Nutrition or Public Health for two years of the required general professional nutrition or dietetic services experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Current credential as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) OR qualified to take the IBCLC exam OR has a current certificate as a Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) or Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS).

2. Experience assisting families with breastfeeding issues.

3. Experience evaluating and providing feedback to staff.

4. Experience/knowledge using software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Workspace.

5. Experience in providing presentations to groups, both in person and via virtual platforms.

6. Excellent written and oral communication skills/knowledge.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian or Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
