Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to coordinate MDH’s Cognitive Health Program and its approach to addressing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and cognitive/brain health. This position will support, monitor, and coordinate a wide range of strategic statewide cognitive health programming, policy, and planning activities. This position will provide staff support to the Virginia I. Jones Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD) Advisory Council and oversee implementation of the state plan on Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias. The position will collaborate with the Center’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and Data Team to develop and monitor implementation milestones and measurable outcomes to assess the progress of the state plan on ADRD. The position will build partnerships and seek alignment with state agencies that aid individuals with dementia and their caregivers. The position will manage all program procurements, grants, and contracts, as appropriate, dependent on funding availability. This position will also seek funding to support the Brain Health Program by applying for grants to align with MDH’s approach and that of the state plan on ADRD. The position will oversee aligned activities in the Center, including healthy lifestyles and data and evidence sharing on dementia and cognitive health.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.

Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three years must have been in Health Services professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions and four years must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree or Doctorate degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Experience with grant writing and grant management.

2. Experience in procurement.

3. Experience supervising employees.
