The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Informatics, Food Service, and Clinical Dietitian, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! 

Act as the clinical dietitian/nutritionist for the Department in all matters involving nutritional therapy. Provide clinical nutrition consultations and medical nutrition therapy to youth, and support nursing and medical staff with expert nutritional assistance. Annually develop and coordinate two four-week cycle menus that comply with the USDA School Lunch and School Breakfast Child Nutrition Program, Current Dietary Guidelines and the applicable Dietary Reference Intakes for the population served. Assist the Director of Food and Nutrition Service in the administrative details required to implement the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program at all residential sites operated by the Department of Juvenile Services. Manage the software program for planning menus and complying with USDA rules and regulations for School Lunch and School Breakfast.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: One year of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services.

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Community Health or Nutrition for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classification or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications: 
  • Possession of a ServSafe Manager certification within the past three years 
  • Experience with implementation of the USDA School Lunch and School Breakfast Program and federal Child Nutrition Program regulations. 
  • Experience passing Maryland State Department of Education Audits on School Lunch and School Breakfast Federal Child Nutrition Program compliance. 
  • Experience using the Health-E-Pro software to analyze menus for compliance with USDA School Lunch and School Breakfast Guidelines.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current licenseas a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215 prior to permanent appointment.

2. Employees in the classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
