Main Purpose of Job

The Commitment Records Lead assigns, reviews and approves the work of and trains lower-level Commitment Records Specialists while the Commitment Records Specialist II performs the full range of duties and responsibilities under general supervision. Records Specialists.

POSITION DUTIES

- Reviews, verifies and interprets information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of adult inmate prison sentences in accordance with State laws and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

- Reviews, audits and adjusts inmate records following specialized commitment procedure which many include:Reviewing and adjusting inmate commitment information upon intake. Adjusting inmate records as necessary in instances of escape,  release or parole violations. Reviewing and adjusting all inmate records prior to release, court appearances or transfers.
 
- Processes other inmate information into Statewide Computer System maintaining necessary backup information including but not limited to: Placing and lifting detainer information. Posting inmate good conduct credits or revocation of credits. Posting court dates, dispositions or other pertinent information.

 - In accordance with applicable laws, regulation, policies and procedure, accurately computes and/or verifies the accuracy of calculations of inmate terms, diminution credits and release dates adjusted for time spent on escape, parole, mandatory supervision or court ordered releases.
 
 - Accurately records calculations, credits and release dates adjusted for time spent on escape, parole, mandatory supervision or court ordered release within the commitment and diminution records.

- Assigns, reviews, approves the work of and trains lower-level Commitment Records Specialists. 

- Monitors work assigned to specialists, ensures work is completed within required timeframes and reports work progress to the supervisor. 

-Develops and provides technical training to improve commitment records specialists’ skill level.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in reviewing, verifying, and interpreting information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of prison sentences in accordance with applicable laws, and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
