Main Purpose of Job

The Security Officer is responsible for covering a routine security shift as assigned. During those shifts, they will conduct security rounds of the facility checking the physical security of the facility, checking fire extinguishers and other safety equipment, and reporting any safety or security related defects or anomalies. Security Officers will have access to CCTV monitors and will either in person or via CCTV monitor staff in the parking areas during shift changes during their watch. Security Officers are also on call to any emergency at the facility as necessary.

POSITION DUTIES

Conducts Routine Security Officer Services, while standing a routine security watch, conduct routine security rounds, observing and reporting suspicious activity or unsafe situations, maintain radio contact with hospital nursing supervisors, and monitor staff in the parking lots at shift change in accordance with the WMHC Hospital Security Handbook.Maintain daily security logs and make written reports of security or safety issues or incidents, those reports being in the proper format with professionally acceptable grammar and completed in a timely manner. Serve as Front Desk/Lobby attendant including coverage for breaks.  Assists with conducting and proctoring Emergency Life Safety Drills to ensure the hospital maintains a high level of emergency proficiency in accordance with the Joint Commission, CARF, NFPA, COMAR, and other regulating bodies. Make replacement ID cards as necessary and assist with new employee ID’s as necessary.  Serve as a support member of the WMHC Incident Management Team. May be required to report to work during off hours in an emergency. The incumbent must maintain a phone in their residence or a personal cell phone.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Ability to read and write.

Experience: Six months of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Master-At-Arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
