Main Purpose of Job

Direct public access exists at one central area located on the street level/first floor. The building access door is kept locked at all times. Staff has access to the building via the electronic card swipe system. All others will be admitted by the Building Security Officer or buzzed in through the remote entry system. Visitors desiring access to restricted offices and meeting room areas located on other floors shall report to the Front Door and be issued a visitors pass. A visitor shall be directed by the Building Security Officer to the visitor's pre-determined destination.

POSITION DUTIES

-Provide front door coverage for MIEMSS' staff and visitors to include insuring visitors sign-in/check-in upon entry

-Permit only authorized persons to enter MIEMSS premises

-Report in writing or by email any unusual occurrences and/or incidents that happen by way of an incident report

-Assure no unauthorized person is in the building at the beginning the shift and prior to close shift

-Control access in restricted office and safety areas

-Provide assistance to individuals looking for specific departments or staff

-Direct repairmen, contractors and delivery persons and others to the correct floor, area, or department

-If, and when necessary, inform all employees and visitors of the State's no smoking regulations, as per the Governor's Executive Order of 1992

-Request identification from any person in the John M. Murphy Building, who is not visually displaying a State of Maryland ID badge, MIEMSS ID badge, UMMS ID badge, or a MIEMSS visitor badge

-Visitors are required to conspicuously display such temporary badges while on the premises. Visitors are expected to check out with front desk officer upon departure from the building

-Notify individual and/or unit of the visitor's arrival; and request the visitor be escorted to a pre-determined destination. Occasionally escort visitors to meeting rooms;

-Assisting with opening the front door for staff and visitors as needed

-Securing parking spaces in the front of the building as requested by the appropriate MIEMSS staff

-Assisting staff and/or visitors throughout the building as requested

-Contacting the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus police or Baltimore City Police should an emergency arise

-Report promptly and incidence of a malfunctioning elevators(s) directly to the MIEMSS Finance Director or her designee. If one or both units are taken out of service for repair, the Front Desk Officer shall inform staff and visitors of the non-working units(s).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Master-At-Arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience as a Building Security Officer 

Experience reporting incidents of a malfunctioning elevator(s) directly to the appropriate designee within the agency

This recruitment is limited to current MIEMSS employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
