Main Purpose of Job

Under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor for the Cancer Screening Services (CSS) Program and in partnership with the community, the main purpose for this position is to provide case management services to clients eligible for breast, cervical, and lung cancer screening services through the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and Cigarette Restitution Fund.

The duties of this position include a variety of nursing tasks requiring comprehensive knowledge of the Maryland Department of Health Breast and Cervical Cancer Program (BCCP) treatment protocols, You must possess the ability to compassionately share health information with program clients, and knowledge of the resources available to patients seeking services through the Cancer Screening Services Program. 

Carrying out these responsibilities involves looking at things through a health equity lens to ensure that everyone in the county has access to cancer screening based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Maryland Department of Health guidelines. The selected candidate will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and have the ability to drive and operate a vehicle with mileage reimbursement provided per Department of Health policies. The position will be required to work the day shift, evening shift, and weekends as needed and be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift 25 lbs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience in Nurse Case Management 
  • Experience in Women's Health
  • Bilingual with Spanish

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
