Main Purpose of Job

The primary role of this full-time position will be to provide ongoing clinical supervision for Family Support Specialists, Family Resource Specialists, and/or Community Health Nurses working in Early Care Programs. This position will provide intensive home visiting to pregnant women and children up to five years of age through the Healthy Families Garrett County home visiting program. Program goals include improving birth outcomes, cultivating nurturing parent child relationships, promoting optimal child health and developmental outcomes, promoting family stability, and building foundations for strong family functioning. This position will also support and supervise staff providing direct services to families. This is accomplished through the provision of ongoing education and promotion of positive health practices as well as conducting assessments and providing referrals in collaboration with other health professionals and community agencies. Service provision is geared towards supporting family and children's optimal health, nutrition, safety, and development.

The selected candidate should have a solid understanding of or experience in supervising diverse staff with humility, as well as providing support to staff in stressful work environments. They also exhibit knowledge of infant and child development and parent-child attachment and have experience with family services that embraces the concepts of family­ centered and strength-based service provision. This position requires exhibiting knowledge of parent-infant health and the dynamics of child abuse and neglect. The selected candidate should have experience supporting culturally diverse communities/families and have experience in home visiting with a strong background in early childhood prevention services. The selected candidate must have a willingness to engage in building reflective practice ( e.g., capacity for introspection, communicating awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.).

Infant mental health endorsement is preferred, but not required. 

Experience with reflective practice is preferred, but not required.

Job Duties are directed toward assuring quality service delivery with home visiting services to include ongoing nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, and development of a plan of care with families taking into account their unique strengths and needs. Knowledge of and/or expertise in providing home based services preferred.

In addition, this position will provide support to parents and expectant parents through education and instructing Childbirth/Breastfeeding Classes.

General and reflective supervision sessions will be provided from the Early Care Program Director to promote continued growth with the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience as a Community Health Nurse.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute one year of experience in an administrative, supervisory, consultative or teaching capacity as a Registered Nurse for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience with reflective practice
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in providing home based services

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a registered nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
