The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Nurse Practitioner, Central Region, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!

This is a position responsible for: 
  • Planning, coordinating, and providing primary health care services for youth at DJS facilities and shelters; 
  • Assisting the DJS Medical Director as needed on health initiatives and special projects. 

Work is performed under the direction of the Medical Director. An employee in this class exercises independence of action and initiative. Does related work as required.

This position is required to be on call to the facility. Limited telework allowed up to 8 to 16 hours per week.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nurses under the certification requirements for Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife.

Experience: One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse-Midwife.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife classification or Nurse Practitioner or Nurse-Midwife specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications:
  • CPR/AED Certification;
  • Two years of experience as a board-certified Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner;
  • Experience performing quality assurance activities;
  • Experience providing care to high-risk adolescents and patients with substance use disorders.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nurse Practitioner or as a Nurse Midwife from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Employees in this classification may be subject to call and, therefore, may be required to provide the agency with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
