POSITION DUTIES

This position will provide medical health-related services to patients of the Joseph S. Massie Unit (Massie Unit) inpatient and residential programs as well as the Allegany County Health Department (ACHD) Outpatient Buprenorphine Clinic. This position will include performing comprehensive health assessments on new admissions to determine withdrawal risk and need for withdrawal management medications, medical diagnoses and appropriate patient treatment plans; administering and prescribing medications, counseling patients, initiates care in emergency situations, identify and treat acute and chronic illnesses, documents patient progress and consults with the supervising physician. This position in the Outpatient Buprenorphine Clinic will include completing history and physicals for Medications for Opioid Use Disorders (MOUD) inductions, complete MOUD inductions, and complete follow-up appointments for MOUD clients.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance under the certification requirements for Physician Assistants.

Experience: One year of experience performing the duties of a Physician Assistant.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Physician Assistant classifications or Physician Assistant specialty codes in the Physician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred applicant should possess the following:
  • Experience working in the field of addiction medicine (inpatient and/or outpatient) providing medications to assist with Opioid, alcohol, and other substance use disorder withdrawal, detoxification, deterrents and maintenance.
  • Experience prescribing Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD).
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both verbal and nonverbal.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate, or be eligible for certification, as a Physician Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Physician Quality Assurance, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants for this classification may be given a medical examination prior to their appointment to determine their ability to perform the work of the position.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
