POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this full-time position will be to supervise the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Coordinators/Specialists and other program coordinators implementing the work of alcohol and other drug abuse prevention. This position will oversee the development, coordination and implementation of prevention programs and activities as outlined in agency prevention grants. It will be a requirement that this position monitor all aspects of data collections to increase community awareness and ensure that prevention grant funds are utilized in areas where the need is the greatest. This position will also guide the prevention team in all educational programs, strategies, and activities. In addition, the selected candidate will: Learn about government laws and policies to educate and/or encourage community behavioral change. Prepare and oversee all grant submissions and administrative reporting will be a function of this job. Understand training needs for staff development and offer opportunities for improvement. Please note: Budget development, financial oversight and analysis will be required skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with thirty credits in behavioral science, health services, human services or education.

Experience: Three years of experience managing or directing alcohol and other drug prevention services in a community and/or school setting.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute sixty credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in the behavioral sciences, health services, human services or education and an additional two years of experience as specified above for the required education.

2. Additional experience as specified above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

3. Applicants may substitute graduate level education in behavioral sciences, health services, human services or education, on a year-for-year basis, for up to two years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Drug and Alcohol Counseling or Health Care Administration classifications or Mental/Behavioral Health and Drug and Alcohol Counseling or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience supervising alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention staff, grants and activities
  • Experience overseeing budgets, coordination, planning and implementation of all prevention programs
  • Experience communicating effectively with the public and coworkers
  • Experience with public speaking and representing the agency at meetings

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
