Main Purpose of Job

This position operates at the full performance level, encompassing responsibilities for both front-end and back-end aspects of all SDAT Information Technology System applications. The primary purpose of this role is to deliver end-user support and oversee the redevelopment of legacy mainframe applications for migration to a cloud environment.

POSITION DUTIES

Systems Administration: managing and maintaining an organization's IT infrastructure to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. This typically includes servers, networks, software, and other critical IT resources. Systems administrators, or sysadmins, play a key role in ensuring that these systems operate smoothly and efficiently.

Solutions Development: creating tailored systems, applications, or processes to address specific business needs or challenges. It requires a combination of technical expertise, strategic planning, and a deep understanding of the business objectives to deliver effective, innovative, and scalable solutions.

Solutions Operations focuses on the ongoing management, maintenance, and optimization of deployed systems, applications, or business solutions. It ensures that solutions remain functional, reliable, and efficient while adapting to evolving business requirements and technological advancements.

Outreach engaging with stakeholders to promote awareness, provide support, and enhance collaboration regarding IT services, initiatives, and resources. The goal is to ensure that end-users, departments, and external partners understand and effectively utilize the technology solutions and services offered by OIT.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years and six months of experience, six months of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools and an additional four years of experience converting data from project specifications by writing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute six credit hours of coursework in application analysis and programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for six months of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by writing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional four years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours from an accredited college or university in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the additional four years of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute additional experience in one of the following areas: operating computers, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computers, evaluating, implementing and maintaining hardware and software, on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.

5. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other information technology related field and six months of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications systems and programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the required experience.

5. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Computer Systems Programming classifications or Computer Systems Programming specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The selected candidate MUST have experience with programming languages, tools/frameworks, and databases such as Java, .NET, Python, Node JS, React, Javascript, APIs, SQL Server, SQL, and NoSQL.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field
Understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
Experience working in the AWS Cloud platform
AWS Services (EC2, EBS, S3, RDS, VPC, CloudTrail, CloudFront, Lambda, EKS, ECS, IAM, etc.)
AWS components (Cloud watch, Amazon SES, VPC, AWS Secret Manager, Route 53, Amazon WAF, etc.)
Experience with SVN (Subversion) or other source code control system
Experience with agile and waterfall delivery practices
Familiarity with private/hybrid/public cloud architectures
Working knowledge of building CI/CD automated pipelines
Experience working with automation testing
Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, Dynatrace
Experience in working with delivery efficiency software such as Atlassian Jira

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
