OUR MISSION

The Maryland Workers' Compensation Commission seeks to secure the equitable and timely administration of the provisions of the Maryland Workers' Compensation law on behalf of its customer, the injured workers and their employers, by providing an efficient forum for the resolution of individual claims.

Main Purpose of Job

The Director of Technical Services and Support is responsible for providing direction over multiple areas of technology, including the Service Desk, Internet and Intranet websites, end-user computing services, infrastructure related services and IT procurements in support of the Agency’s mission and objectives.

POSITION DUTIES

Position Duties
• Direct staffing, training, and technical activities necessary to successfully execute the dynamic requirements of WCC’s technology environment.  Research emerging technologies and alternatives to existing IT resources to maximize efficiency and cost savings while executing WCC’s mission. Make recommendations to appropriate leadership.  

• Develop, direct, and maintain highly functional IT staff to meet WCC technology needs in a timely, efficient, accurate, and customer service-oriented manner. Ensure quick and accurate completion of all IT staff tasks. Act as subject matter expert for technology related matters for both IT staff and leadership. 

• Provide outstanding customer service and ensure that subordinate staff provide outstanding customer service to all internal and external clients.  

• Ensure compliance with all relevant policies (security, technology, procurement, etc.) governing WCC IT matters. Develop, maintain, and periodically test Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations plans for WCC. Administer audit activities and findings pertaining to WCC IT matters.  

• Prioritize WCC IT projects; determine staffing requirements, develop work plans and schedules; monitor progression of IT projects; oversee closing of completed projects.  Ensure completion of WCC projects on-time and on-budget.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university 

 Experience:  

• Minimum ten (10) years of experience managing technical teams in one or more areas of Information Technology including help desk technicians, database administrators, application developers, server administrators, etc. 

• Five years of experience in a Microsoft heavy technology environment, including 2-3 years of practical professional experience in operations support, infrastructure, security, change management and reporting.  

• Experience in IT infrastructure strategic planning and development while defining, managing and communicating project milestones, service level agreements and resource allocation to executive team, department leads, support staff and end users.

·  Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills

·  Excellent analytical, prioritization, and problem-solving skills

·  Demonstrated experience securing on-premises and hybrid cloud IT environments

·  Demonstrated experience overseeing the implementation of a technology solution

·   Documented ability to manage and prioritize tasks and projects, deliver them on time
