Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

Annapolis, Maryland (See Limitations on Selection for more information).

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to properly clean all of the lobbies, offices, restrooms, mail rooms, print shops, hallways, stairways, elevators etc. in each building in the Annapolis State Office complex assigned to Sate and Legislative employees.

This is an emergency essential classification subject to emergency release procedures. Employees in this classification must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, and are required to remain or report for duty at such hours as needed to maintain the continuous operation of this agency.

If you are the selected candidate, you will be required to complete a Pre-Employment Physical, which will assess your ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position. 

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to: 
- Dust, remove trash and vacuum all offices, lobbies and hallways. 
- Sweep and wet mop all floor areas and stairwells.
- Clean restrooms daily to include sanitizing toilets, urinals, sinks and mirrors, stock with soap, paper products and sanitary products. 
- Shampoo carpets throughout the building twice a year. 
- Strip and wax tiled floors twice a year and spray buff at various intervals. 
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment and set up tables and chairs for meetings/special events. 
- Perform routine building maintenance such as, preparing surfaces for painting, installing and replacing light bulbs, cleaning and unclogging drains, traps and lines and replacing washers as needed. 
- Assist with shoveling snow and salting sidewalks and steps in the Winter. 
- Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.  

Experience: None.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This position is limited to candidates willing to accept part time employment in the evening from 4:30pm – 8:30pm.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

SELECTION PROCESS

The examination for this position will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring authority to select employees for interviews.  Eligible lists may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.     

Please note, selected candidates may be required to complete and successfully pass a State and Federal fingerprint background check prior to being hired.
