Performance Based Opportunity 

As part of our continuous efforts to optimize performance and drive success the Regulatory Compliance Engineer I, is eligible for an annual promotion. The incumbent may advance to a higher grade within the classification series, based on satisfactory work performance.  


Progressive grade levels include:

Regulatory and Compliance Engineer II – Grade 17 ($64,984 - $104,954)

Regulatory and Compliance Engineer III – Grade 19 ($73,957 - $119,492)

Main Purpose of Job

The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer I will perform sanitary surveys, prepare reports, and provide technical assistance to community and non-transient non-community public water systems in the State of Maryland. The incumbent in this position will contribute to securing safe, reliable, and adequate public water supplies that must comply with State and federal laws and regulations.

The working conditions of this position may involve exposure to hazardous conditions which may result in injury. Work involves special physical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc.

The incumbent in this position will be required to drive a State vehicle.  If you maintain an out-of-state driving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record from the appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment.  Individuals must maintain a driver's license with no more than 5 points on their driving record in order to drive a State vehicle.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credit hours in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a current Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

PERSONAL LEAVE - New State employees are awarded six (6) personal leave days annually (prorated based on start date).

ANNUAL LEAVE - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.

SICK LEAVE – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.

PARENTAL LEAVE – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.

HOLIDAYS – State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year.
