Main Purpose of Job

The Capital Construction Engineer II performs an advanced level of work in the field of building design, renovation, construction and repairs. This position provides guidance to multidisciplinary teams of registered mechanical engineers and architects to accomplish the effective and efficient handling of applicable projects. 

This incumbent must be a Professional Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for facility program / project review. Attend meeting with selected architects and mechanical engineers, assist with providing projects scheduled and monitoring, design review, reconciliation of design problems, review of changes made during the program / projects and final acceptance. Assigns priorities and schedules work to be done. Provide guidance and direction to resolve equipment repair and replacement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Three years of experience as a design or project Engineer or Architect for large-scale multi-year construction projects.

Notes:

1. A Master’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience.

2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Civil Engineer Corps or Engineering Aid classifications or Construction Engineering Technician, Technical Engineer, or Civil or Combat Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including incarcerated individuals
  •  Ability to develop an emergency action plan and execute it successfully
  •  Experience resolving emergency repairs with short timelines

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  · Personal Leave - New State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)

 · Annual Leave -Ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year
· Sick Leave - Fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year 
· Parental Leave - up to Sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child
