LOCATION OF POSITION

POSITION DUTIES

The Alcohol and Drug Trainee provides counseling, intervention, treatment, and rehabilitation services to those incarcerated individuals with substance use disorder(s). The Alcohol and Drug Trainee will do the following:

 

· Assess inmates as needed using the TAP to identify inmates needing substance use disorder treatment services. Score and add the results of the TAP to the Screening Assessment Result form and provide the results to case management. Develop Incarcerated individual files to maintain original testing instruments.

 · Provide substance use disorder treatment on an individual basis twice monthly and two group sessions a week for two groups with approximately 15 members. Facilitate one aftercare services group weekly.

 · Documentation of all group and individual notes to include treatment plans and discharge summaries in inmate files.

 · Maintain contact with internal and external resources such as community based addiction provides in support of providing aftercare services.

 · Provide support to the Peer Recovery Specialist Training Program for incarcerated individuals.

 · Participation in continued professional development through educational training.

 · Completion of monthly statistics on substance use disorder treatment activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications and license requirements to be considered, and to appear on the list of people eligible for hire. Please read all requirements before applying. 

 

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists under the requirements for an Alcohol and Drug Trainee.

 

Experience: None

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, employees in this classification must apply for and receive a letter of authorization to practice as a trainee from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists within 90 days of their date of hire.

 

2. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 employees in this classification must also successfully obtain certification from the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Supervised Counselor within one year of meeting the experience requirement for a Certified Supervised Counselor.

 

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.       

 

2. Employees in this classification perform the work in a Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) or a Maryland State certified addictions program.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
