POSITION DUTIES

The Alcohol and Drug Certified Associate Counselor, Supervisor provides administrative and supervision, and leadership to the A/D Associate Counselors responsible for assessing all incoming inmates in a designated institution for substance abuse problems and to provide counseling, intervention, and treatment and rehabilitation services to those inmates with substance abuse disorder(s). This may also include inmates that are dually diagnosed.


Such services may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Supervise and evaluate the work of addiction counselors, to include client record reviews and monitor the administration of treatment services. Insure compliance with COMAR standards for substance abuse treatment. Provide corrective recommendations for improving skills in the administration of substance abuse counseling services

  • Assign tasks to addiction counselors related to data collection, reports, and the administration of substance abuse services

  • Conduct meetings to review and recommend changes in procedures for substance use disorder assessments and counseling interventions

  • Review assessments completed assure scoring accuracy

  • Assist the Regional Supervisor in the implementation of substance use disorder services that comply with the department’s strategy for providing services

  • Review clinical files to ensure completed documentation within the required timeframe

  • Maintain contact with internal and external resources such as community based addiction providers in support of providing aftercare services

  • Participate in continued professional development through educational training.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug with a Board Approved Supervision letter.  

 

Experience: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Associate Counselor-Alcohol and Drug with a Board Approved Supervision letter.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. In accordance with Health Occupations Title 17 and Code of Maryland Regulations 10.58.07, candidates placed in this classification must be either certified by the Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Certified Professional Counselor-Alcohol and Drug.  

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Candidates must possess graded courses in management and supervision as defined by the Abuse Administration (ADAA), Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.  This training must be approved by ADAA.  Inquiries concerning this training must be addressed to the Office of Education and Training for Addiction Services, 55 Wade Avenue, Catonsville, Maryland  21228.  

2. Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
