POSITION DUTIES
This position is a Network Engineer Lead and is a highly technical role in the implementation
and performance of the Department of Information Technology's (DoIT) Local Area Network
(LAN) IT infrastructure as well as with the IT infrastructure for DoIT’s partners, managers,
directors, service owners, and other agencies at the state, local and federal levels of government.
The primary purpose of this position is to manage, plan, implement, and integrate DoIT's LAN
and WLAN infrastructure. Including troubleshooting, operations & maintenance (O&M),
solution implementation, formal hardware upgrades, firmware evaluations, providing technical
support and consulting to partner agencies, performing site surveys, and optimizing LAN
infrastructure solutions. Including coordinating, providing guidance and support to personnel
either at DoIT, other agencies, contractors, LAN Services team members, DoIT managers or
directors, networkMaryland™, or others at DoIT to complete these tasks.
This position also provides guidance and direction in the areas of hardware, software,
networking, wireless, VoIP troubleshooting, and evaluation of work. Includes network design,
troubleshooting, operations & maintenance (O&M), solution implementation-, formal hardware,
and software evaluations, providing technical support and consulting to partner agencies. The
Network Engineer Lead will perform the following functions for junior members of the LAN
Services team: 1) Serve as the first technical escalation point; 2) Assign and review work; and
3) Instruct and motivate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
Eight years of experience designing and implementing complex data communications or telecommunications networks.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science or other information technology related field of study to include coursework in database management systems for up to four years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute additional graduate education at an accredited college or university, at the rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Database Administration classifications or Database Administration specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year for year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. Experience configuring and deploying Juniper EX, SRX, MX & Mist devices.
2. Experience with network automation, using Python or similar program languages.
3. A certification in JNCIS or CCNP or both.

Employees in this
classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be
required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the
employee can be reached. Employees may be furnished with a pager or cell phone.

to field locations and must have access to an automobile in the event a state
vehicle cannot be provided. Standard mileage allowance will be paid for use of
