Introduction
The Department of Information Technology (DoIT)
leads the State in the creation and implementation of information technology
solutions that improve IT infrastructure and government services and keep
Maryland current within IT industry trends.

LOCATION OF POSITION
POSITION DUTIES
- Provide day-to-day management and direction for in-house staff for the safe and reliable operations of datacenter and infrastructure systems.
- Provide hands-on project management for strategic agency-wide initiatives, inclusive of technology selection, effort, timeline, cost, resource allocation, system engineering, RFP/SOW creation, vendor selection/management, solution delivery, and implementation.
- Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
- Work with peer Infrastructure and other IT Department Managers to provide input into the departmental vision and strategic road map for Data Center technical platforms.
- Maintains knowledge of existing and developing applicable technologies through seminars accredited institutions, publications, and other means.
- Develop a working
knowledge of Core
components – equipment and software for IT operations and storage of data and
applications. These may include storage systems; servers; network
infrastructure, and various information security elements, such as
firewalls.
- Support the preparations of specifications, Requests for Proposals (RFP), Task Order Request for Proposals (TORF) and other documentation to solicit invitations for bids for hardware, software, and services to support networkMaryland. Review and evaluate bid proposals; and manage vendors for contractual obligations.
- Oversee the Data Center Operations, new equipment purchases, operating system administration and management, security, monitoring and break fix operations, perform root cause analysis, routine and preventive maintenance activities of the data center equipment, software, licensing, network equipment, network diagrams, contracts, upgrades, facilities management, disaster recovery planning and documentation, review and respond to Office of Legislative Audits, project planning and development, data center migrations, service delivery.
- Establish service level agreements, develop service catalog offerings, create service design packages, perform total cost of ownership analysis, develop annual invoice and true-up processes, review and revise service offering rates to ensure they maintain cost competitiveness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college
or university in information technology, computer science or other IT related
field.
Experience: Five years’ experience in maintaining, upgrading, and implementing
improvements to the VMWare vCenter and VMWare ESXi infrastructure and managing
available virtual and storage resources within the infrastructure
environment. Two of the five years need
to be in an IT supervisory role.
Notes: Candidates may substitute the Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience listed above.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to
candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:
- Incident and vendor management
- Managing metrics/KPIs with a high degree of organization and detail-orientation.
- Overseeing/maintaining a budget for an organization/company.
