Main Purpose of Job

The Academic Acceleration Specialist is responsible for facilitating the school review process as outlined in the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. The Specialist is responsible for 1) facilitating school implementation review teams; 2) developing reports and sharing outcomes of the school review process; 3) providing regular on-site and virtual support to education agencies; 4) creating, coordinating, and facilitating targeted professional learning experiences as it relates to school reviews; and 5) providing leadership and expertise in the implementation of review protocols.

POSITION DUTIES

Facilitate implementation reviews in school systems and schools
  • Collaborates with education agencies and other stakeholders to support compliance with all required elements of the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future 
  • Collaborates across the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) and with external stakeholders to develop resources that support the review process. 
  • Develops review tools and protocols with external partners. This includes but is not limited to creation and/or identification of a readiness tool, implementation tool, and templates for reporting. · Establishes criteria to select review teams. 
  • Selects review teams for each site visit. 
  • Provides training to review teams on the review process. 
  • Maintains a review schedule. 
  • Conducts review visits. 
  • Develops review reports detailing the outcomes of reviews.
  • Prepares reports, PowerPoints, and other resources for internal and external communication. · Develops internal and external benchmarks and measures of success.
  • Maintains review calendar and project management resources. 
  • Provides guidance and technical assistance to support education agencies and others on evidence-based interventions to accelerate student learning and support school reopening. 
  • Collaborates with local education agencies to identify and support the implementation of evidence-based strategies to mitigate learning loss.  
  • Works cross-divisionally to align and leverage resources that support reviews, mitigating learning loss, and accelerating learning. 
  • Delivers on-site and virtual support to education agency staff or other stakeholders. 
  • Collects data and review progress toward meeting deliverables. Develops reports and shares effective practices and lessons learned.Develop and facilitate professional learning experience to support school implementation reviews.
  • Develops and facilitates professional learning focused on research-based practices and evidenced-based interventions for accelerating learning and mitigating learning loss.

  • Provides technical assistance and programmatic guidance to local education agencies and other stakeholders. 
  • Develops and implements measures to ascertain the effectiveness of professional learning experiences. 
  • Serves as a core team member on the cross-functional school improvement team to align resources and support for the implementation of school review deliverables. 
  • Collaborates with other Divisions within MSDE and external stakeholders to design and implement learning experiences that support building capacity of school system personnel. 
  • Coordinates meeting logistics including agendas, facilities, and materials. 
  • Prepares talking points, PowerPoints, images, and other correspondences to communicate with stakeholders. 
  • Develops yearly plan of work and calendar of events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Master’s degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Four years of administrative or teaching experience in, or affiliated with, an education program; including two years of experience facilitating school quality reviews, providing instructional leadership, facilitating professional learning experiences, and/or leading school improvement initiatives.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute two additional years of experience directly related to the position option for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the required experience.
 
3. The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland.  The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services.
 
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
