This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

LOCATION OF POSITION

There are multiple vacancies located throughout the State of Maryland. Therefore, the resulting eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies. When completing the application, please select all locations in which you are willing to work.

POSITION DUTIES

The purpose of this position is to manage the Pre-Release Facility with the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The incumbent is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, controlling, evaluating and administering policies, procedures and regulations necessary to manage the overall operation of the facility to assure public safety.

Duties of this position include:
  • Supervising custody supervisors
  • Conducting facility rounds, ensuring proper sanitation practices, and addressing security and emergency issues and/or concerns
  • Providing overall supervision of civilian staff to include case management, maintenance, dietary, and support
  • Ensuring provision of relevant and current programs and services, as well as interacting with community stakeholders
  • Initiating and reviewing facility policies, making suggestions of change to the Warden
  • May assume the duties of the Assistant Warden in his/her absence

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Correctional Training Commission regulation

Experience: Two years of experience as a Correctional Security Chief or four years of experience as a Correctional Office Major

Notes:
  1. Experience as a Director or Manager of a program within a correction institution can be substituted for the required experience as a Security Chief on a year for year basis for the Security Chief experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute additional education at an accredited college or university at the rate of sixty credit hours for only one year of the required experience, provided that a minimum of 15 credit hours are in the field of criminal justice or related social science.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional classifications or correctional specialty codes similar to Correctional Security Chief or Correctional Officer Major on a year-for-year basis.
  4. Experience served in positions similar to the rank of Correctional Security Chief or Correctional Officer Major in other jurisdictions will be considered on a year-for-year basis.

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
