Introduction

As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES
- Develop, implement, and coordinate services with Driving Rehabilitation Vendors to ensure that services and documentation are in accordance with Agency policy and procedures and that consumers receive continuity in their driving rehabilitation program
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to DORS field counselors on policy and procedures/next steps in the Adapted Driving Rehabilitation process based on the evaluation of the reports submitted by the driving rehabilitation vendors
- Receive and process invoices and reports for adapted driving services provided by Driving Rehabilitation vendors Track cases utilizing an electronic tracking software product (Smartsheet) to assure that consumers receive continuity in their driving rehabilitation program
- Review the Driving Rehabilitation vendors’ VEAPAs (Vehicle Modification Prescription) submitted along with the VEAPA-Vehicle Consultation report for thoroughness and determine if any questions need to be addressed prior to calculating an estimated cost of the modifications
- Prepare the final VEAPA to send to MSDE procurement once the consumer has purchased, a vehicle determined to be compatible with the prescribed vehicle modifications by the Driving Rehabilitation vendor
- Develop and maintain working relationships with MSDE Procurement Officers to help the procurement of vehicle modifications move through the process without delays Remain current with relevant research and evidence-based practices related to automotive technology, automobility and vehicle modifications
- Facilitate the adaptive driving process (Adapted Driving Assessment, Training, MVA DWS stages, Licensing, Vehicle Consultation and Vehicle Equipment Adaptation Prescription Agreement)
- Coordinate case service issues with the consumer, relevant professional staff, referral sources, and significant others
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Two years of experience in driving rehabilitation or vehicle modification programs working with individuals with disabilities.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience as defined above directly related to the position at the rate of one year of experience for each year of the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
3. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104, Annotated Code of Maryland.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Advanced knowledge and experience using Google Applications/Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Smartsheet application or similar
- Experience with case management software and/or database applications
- Experience with automotive/mechanical technology
- Experience with procurement processes
- Experience working with the Motor Vehicle Administration Driver Wellness and Safety Program
- Experience with analysis of technical reports
- Experience with processing invoices
