POSITION DUTIES

The position will serve as the Director of Fair Practices. The incumbent will perform a variety of employee relations, personnel and administrative staff functions in support of the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs. These functions will include the following:


Investigating workplace complaints and discrimination claims; 

 

Working with appointing authority to address grievances at Step One;

 

Serving as EEO Officer and ADA Coordinator; 

 

Facilitating management's relationship with the employees' exclusive representatives (labor unions); 


Training agency employees in prevention of sexual harassment and other employee 
relations areas; and performing other personnel and administrative duties as assigned. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience:  Four years of experience in administrative or professional work focused primarily on implementing best practices in the fields of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), Fair Practices, Employee Relations and/or the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two or more years experience working for, or with, a public-sector labor union.
Two or more years experience performing mediation services in the workplace.
Two or more years providing in-person workplace training.
Two or more years providing virtual interactive workplace training.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must be provided prior to hire.

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.  The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
