Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following:
- Providing accurate and timely information regarding policy changes that support the goals of the Juvenile Services Education Board
- Completing thorough legal analyses, including the drafting of bills for legislative initiatives
- Drafting compelling and coherent legislative testimony to support the Juvenile Services Education Program’s objectives
- Developing materials to effectively communicate legislative changes to various audiences, ensuring clarity and understanding
- Meeting with government officials, including those from the Department of Budget Management (DBM), union representatives, legislators, system stakeholders, and agency staff to discuss and advocate for juvenile justice education policies
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: Three (3) years of experience working in local, state, or federal government, and familiarity with the Maryland legislative process.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in law, public administration, public policy, or other related field
- Experience working within or with government agencies, particularly in juvenile justice or education sectors Familiarity with the legislative process and bill drafting
- Proven experience in legislative support, legal analysis, and policy development
- Strong understanding of juvenile justice education policies and national best practices
- Ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, legislators, and agency staff
