The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Supervise institutional maintenance management staff. Provide clear and direct management instructions to include opportunities for open discussion and encourage questions to be sure directions are completely understood. Evaluate the work of the maintenance management staff through the PEP process.
- Develop, monitor, and control all applicable maintenance budget line items. This includes the approval of maintenance department expenditures. Provide monthly reconciliation reports to the Assistant Director of Maintenance. Work with other regional maintenance managers to develop policies and procedures to guide and govern the maintenance mission.
- Generate annual Capital and Critical maintenance project funding requests with project justifications (PJs) for submission to DGS. Provide oversight and coordination for all DGS Capital and Critical maintenance projects Ensures all project work is completed per contract documents and meets or exceeds code requirements where applicable. Attend project progress meetings and provide final approval when requested by the DGS project manager.
- Assists in the interviewing and hiring of maintenance staff, promotion of maintenance supervisors and administrators for departmental facilities. Also, assist in the development of training programs for maintenance managers and staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience: Six years of facilities management experience; three years of supervisory experience

· The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland
· Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference may be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including incarcerated individuals
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to develop an emergency action plan and execute it successfully
- Experience resolving emergency repairs with short timelines
- Familiarity with Maryland's Correctional System and relevant stakeholders
