Main Purpose of Job

As the Senior Security Engineer, you will tackle statewide cyber engineering challenges, shape the technical direction of our cyber services and support the cyber engineering team’s learning and development. You will help partners adopt new services and solve for their most significant cyber challenges. You will advise and lead efforts to detect and remediate cyber security concerns, bringing modern cyber security design practices and culture to legacy systems. You will solve technology roadblocks while navigating the rules and help us update those rules when necessary to modernize how our State government achieves secure data, services, and networks.

The Senior Security Engineer will work with platform owners and state agencies to understand platform needs, contractual implications, and will develop a strategy to optimize cyber security and state resources.

This position will support the implementation and design of the state’s overall cyber engineering efforts and is responsible for the development of statewide cyber services. This position communicates the Department’s strategy and vision related to cyber security including program objectives, development projects, contracts, initiatives, operations and managed service offerings. This position serves as a subject matter expert on all aspects of cyber engineering and centralized cyber service development and represents the Department, in this capacity, in official matters.

POSITION DUTIES

Serve as a core contributor on multi-disciplinary project teams (internal staff and contractor staff) to improve the State cybersecurity services/solutions and respective implementation, including requirements -development.

 

Work with stakeholders to assess legacy systems and identify opportunities for improved cyber security of future systems.

Lead technical solutioning to address agency intake requests and operational requirements.

Support the hiring and onboarding of security engineering staff.

Improve cyber engineering practices across the State by establishing training programs, advising on strategic initiatives, and leading communities of practice.

Review and update policies and standards relevant to cyber engineering.

Other tasks as directed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.


Experience:  Seven years of experience in cyber security engineering.  Three of years of this experience must have been in project delivery.


Notes:  Candidates may substitute the Bachelor’s degree with two additional years of experience listed above.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who have one or more of the following:

Cybersecurity certifications (i.e., CISSP, CEH, OSCP, Security+, etc).

Operational environment certifications ( i.e., Microsoft, Azure, AWS, GCP, Linux, Cisco, etc.).

Project management experience.

Technical challenge experience (i.e. capture the flag, pwn2own, vulnerability research and discovery, etc.).

Public speaking experience (i.e. conference participation, lecturing, etc.).
