Introduction

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites eligible candidates to apply for an internship with Natural Resource Police. This opportunity will provide hands-on experience in the Criminal Justice Field.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to support the work of Natural Resources Police, by assisting in projects that are essential to maintaining operations and efficiency at Matapeake Work Center.

Sample tasks include: 
  • Administrative work associated with fleet vehicles 
  • Assist with inventory to include filing, tracking/accounting and data entry
  • Administrative work associated with procurement 
  • Assist with the NRP Ballistic Vest Program
  • Other projects in need of support

The internship runs approximately 11 weeks between the middle/end of August and middle of December. The specific start/end dates, hours, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicant must be a current college student, undergraduate or graduate level. A GPA of 2.5 or above is required for academic credit. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interested in the field of Criminal Justice or a related field, including conservation law enforcement
  • Boating experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

The selected candidate may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle, UTV or golf cart. If assigned such duties, you will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and three points or fewer on your current driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants selected for employment may undergo an employment background investigation, including, but not limited to: employment reference check, education verification, driving record check (if the position requires employees to drive a vehicle) and a criminal history check including fingerprinting.
