Main Purpose of Job

The Graphic Arts and Design Teacher provides specialized instruction in graphic arts and design to incarcerated individuals in a state correctional facility. This position is critical to the mission of the agency by equipping students with marketable skills that enhance employability, foster creativity, and support successful reintegration into society upon release. Through comprehensive instruction in design principles, digital tools, and vocational practices, the teacher plays a pivotal role in promoting education as a pathway to rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and empowering students to achieve personal and professional growth.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and deliver graphic arts and design curriculum;
  • Facilitate hands-on training;
  • Assess student learning;
  • Maintain program equipment and materials;
  • Collaborate with correctional education staff;
  • Support students' career development;
  • Other duties assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience developing and delivering graphic arts and design curriculum instruction.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (LABOR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to LABOR/DUI as a result of unemployment overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
