This recruitment will be used to fill a Library Media Specialist position at the Cheltenham Youth Detention Center. Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to plan and administer the school's library media program. As an instructional partner, the incumbent collaborates with teachers to provide student information literacy skills instruction integrated into the content areas; supports staff and students in developing an appreciation of literature and reading; manages school library materials, facilities, and equipment; and communicates JSEP's vision for accelerated student achievement and successful transition within the context of effective and meaningful library programming.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess a MSDE Secondary Education Educators Licensure in Library or Library Media.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Endorsement in Secondary Education, Library Media Specialist or Librarian.
2. One year of teaching experience to include internship.
3. Current active certification issued by the State of Maryland Department of Education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Additional educational credits beyond the Advanced Professional Certificate must meet the following criteria established by the Institutional Educators Pay Plan Committee in order to qualify for application toward the APC plus 30 level:
Credits must be beyond the education level held at the time the educational requirements for the Advanced Professional Certificate were met and must either relate to the current job responsibilities or be part of an employer approved program of study.
Credits mean semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university or Maryland State Department of Education approved workshops.
No more than one half of any additional credits applied to these criteria may be earned through Maryland Department of Education approved workshops.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification are subject to Substance Abuse Testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. Applicants must consent to State Police and Child Protective Services (CPS) Investigations/Background Checks as a routine procedure for all employees required to work in State Juvenile Services Facilities.
Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act is required. If, once employed, it is determined that the incumbent does not qualify for at least a Conditional Certificate, the incumbent's employment will be terminated. Also, failure to obtain and maintain the appropriate Maryland Teaching Certificate will be the basis for termination of employment.
