Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor
Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning is accepting applications
from qualified applicants for the position to build an applicant pool for
current and anticipated position vacancies.
This is a professional position responsible for providing teaching and
learning to residents of a correctional facility. This is an Agency specific
recruitment for this specific
classification and function only with the MD Department of Labor.
This position could be placed in any
classification within the Teacher Series. Salary and exact classification will
be determined following an assessment of the selected candidate's education and
MSDE Certification using the IEPP Salary Scale.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the Maryland Adult Basic Education (ABE) curriculum, focusing on literacy (ELA, Science, & Social Studies), numeracy, and employability skills.
- Provide differentiated instruction tailored to meet the diverse learning needs of incarcerated individuals, including those with learning disabilities and limited English proficiency.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, including direct instruction, group work, and individualized instruction, to engage students and facilitate learning.
- Adapt and modify the ABE curriculum to align with the needs and abilities of incarcerated students, incorporating relevant and culturally responsive materials.
- Collaborate with other educators and instructional staff to develop interdisciplinary projects that enhance student learning and promote real-world application of skills.
- Integrate life skills and workforce readiness into the curriculum, preparing students for successful reintegration into society.
- Other duties assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
